WHY SUPPORT LOBO ATHLETICS

Athletics build character because in order to succeed in sports teamwork, self-discipline, and self-sacrifice are required. Other key attributes athletes develop are a strong work ethic and perseverance. These are all key ingredients for success in life and characteristics that equip a person to have value to society. This is why you will find many former UNM student athletes contributing in all aspects of society, from paid or volunteer coaching to becoming leaders in business, education, politics, and community service.

I have met many student athletes at the University of New Mexico, and have blessed with the opportunity to know some quite well, and what impresses me far more than what they do on the field or court is their character. I can truly say I admire them more for who I know they will become as opposed to what they do on the field or court.
